Letters to his sister, Angie, and brother Charlie, 1862 May 25, July 27, August 1.

On May 25 Davis discusses the popularity of McClellan, the bad roads and terrain near Richmond, Va., Confederate plans, Union hopes to be in Richmond in a day or two, and reports from a Union sympathizer that the Confederate army is discouraged. On July 27 he describes a review of Sumner's Corps with praise for his regiment. On August 1 he writes from Harrison's Landing about a Confederate shelling from across the James that killed six men.
